A BRIEF HISTORY
Our Beginning (1827)
J. Vickerstaff & Co. Ltd has been bringing the oceans finest seafoods to the heart of the Midlands since 1827. From the days of the gas lamp we have been working hard to supply only the best seafoods from around the world.

Moving from our original premises in 1862 to 50 Old Cross Street, and then moving into Market Hall, Bell Street in 1867.

Building contacts and business relationships over the years has helped us bring an exciting and varied array of fresh and frozen seafoods from all four corners of the globe including New Zealand & Japan.
20th Century
J. Vickerstaff were still at the Wholesale Fishmarket on Bell Street and trading was a busy as ever. The improvement of the rail network allowed for much faster deliveries from coastal locations allowing us to supply fresher seafood to the heart of the Midlands.

During the first half of the 20th Century J. Vickerstaff played an important role of supplying seafood throughout the First and Second World Wars despite heavy bombing of the area including heavy damage sustained in August 1940.

Later into the 20th Century, following the Fish Markets demolition to make way for the Bull Ring Centre in 1958, a new wholesale market complex was built on Pershore Street with J. Vickerstaff moving in 1974.
Today
Following over 40 years trading at the Pershore Street Market Buildings the Wholesale Food Market moved premises in May 2018 to The Hub in Witton, Birmingham, B6 7EU.

J.Vickerstaff & Co. Ltd located in Units 73 & 75 are now able to offer a vast array of produce from around the world.

Now firmly in the 21st Century our aim is to bring the finest seafood to Birmingham and surrounding areas.

We distribute our produce to the fish industry throughout the UK on our fleet of refrigerated vans.
